The photos in this book contain the lifelong career of master photographer Guy van Grinsven (Maastricht, 1949). A selection of these photos have been displayed in a retrospect exhibition in the Maastricht Museum aan het Vrijthof from august 30th 2018 till March 2019. Starting as an aviation photographer working for a national photo press agency, Guy quickly found his own way in the world of fashion, glamour and royalty photography, selling photos to internationally renowned magazines such as Paris Match and setting up numerous of the world’s most beautiful woman for Playboy Magazine in his giant studio located in his hometown Maastricht.
Soon, however, he found his own, highly personal style in making reports from around the world, from Easter Island to the Amazon rainforest, from Timbuktu to New York and Nizhny Novgorod, and of countless small villages in southern France and around his hometown Maastricht. In order to satisfy his relentless optimistic curiosity, he makes contact with people very easily, puts them at ease because he is truly interested in them. That is why most people have a genuine smile on their face when Guy shot their photo.
In this book, you will find a selection of the photos on display in the Maastricht exhibition, supplemented with photos from Guy’s collection of over 1 million photos.
